Like most XJSs, over the years, the foam rubber sealing the various dampers in the heating/ventilation system is turning to dust. Occasionally the odd small piece has even blown out of the air vent, however at the week end, I noticed something looked strange at the central vent. A really large handfull sized piece of this manky foam rubber was jammed on the inside. I removed the grill and lifted it out.
Every thing still seems to work although I am sure the air blending can't now be as accurate. I'm not that worried about it, but it would be nice to know where this material originated. I've seen rotary dampers with foam sealing on the edges, but this was a massive piece.
Any ideas?

Don't know if it's relevant to this Pop, but the heater matrix was originally fitted with foam pads about an inch and half wide and the width of the unit.
Could it be one of these that has managed to escape from its home?
