XJS Forum Pre-Christmas Booze Run to Calais on 11/11/06

Postby Norman » Sat Sep 16, 2006 4:06 am

Dear All

I hope this will be one of many XJS Forum trips in the future. Please let me know as soon as possible as we can only take 12 cars due to RAC car run regulations and also being limited to 20 places i.e. two round tables of ten, for our Hotel restaurant lunch in order to have an ''al a carte menu.'' as 20 is the max number the restaurant can serve for al a carte meals for one party arriving at the same time.

For more trip information, the itinerary and my full contact details click on the above webman message: Click here for details

Norman.
Why is this event limited to 12 cars? What RAC rules for Car Club runs are you referring to? This does not appear to be a competitive event and I am not aware of a 12 car rule. Many club runs, JEC and others, involve more than 12 cars.

Trip is FULL! But.......

Postby sinclairkbm » Sun Oct 22, 2006 9:56 am

I just phoned to find the trip is FULL.

If anyone would like to travel independently I'll be taking my XJS over, to support the main convoy

The Seafrance sailing at 8.15 (arr 10.30) return 19:30 (arr 19.45) costs £35.00

OR

P and O, Outward Dover - Calais Sat 11 Nov 2006 08:40 £10.00
Return Calais - Dover Sat 11 Nov 2006 20:30 £10.00
Includes 2 adults , Car , Fuel surcharge £10.00 . Total £30.00

Both prices are for 2 adults in XJS. The web site says up to 9 adults in case you need to carry more people.

Kind regards
Sinclair

Thank you to all for a super day out! I was too late to get into the 12 for the trip but went along anyway 8)

Nice to see a stream of XJ-S and XJS winding through the Pas de Calais. There were 11 in total. I can still picture the faces of bemused and amused French people who watched as the convoy made its way to Tilques. 8) 8) 8)

The weather was on the side of the many convertibles present too!

Cheers, merci, bon voyage,

Sinclair

Booze Cruise

Postby ricardo » Sat Dec 16, 2006 3:37 pm

What a brill dayout.
We travelled from our home in Yorkshire on the Friday evening and stayed in Dover overnight.
Had a bit of toast, joined the ferry, found the group, a bunch of people with a common interest, I had not known any of the people before except a couple who we had met on a treasure hunt a few weeks before with our region {North Lincolnshire JEC}.
The ferry was smooth, then the day started to have highlights, a long line of XJ-s's travelling along the backroads of the Pas de Calais region, .
THEN we had our 'lunch' served within the Chateau Tilques restaurant, 7 courses !!! The diet went totally haywire.
We had a photoshoot in front of the grand facade of the chateau, then we set off, again along the 'lanes' of the region, to find the wine and beer warehouse.
As darkness was falling we decided that the day had come to anend so we travelled in convoy to the ferry port in Calais, we managed to board the earlier ferry than the one planned, and another smooth crossing was completed.
We all waved our farewells at the dock complex as we went our own routes home, however we had enjoyed the night in the hotel so much we decided to stay again on the Saturday night, we drove home on the Sunday morning, parking up for a couple of minutes en route at 11am as it was'Rememberance Sunday'
Thankyou all for making it a wonderful day, to ALL the organisers for planning it and to all the 'Cruisers' for being a nice bunch of people and making us feel welcome.
Hope there is another XJ-s 'trip' soon.

Richard Ward/JoyLightfoot :) White 4.0L XJ-s :
Thankyou very much; Richard in Doncaster
