MOT pass today, no advisaries.
RVT is entering 17 years in my ownership, although like Triggers broom it has had a fair amount of new parts over those years. No internet back then and I was actually looking to buy an XJ6 but due to a mis-print in the newspaper advert I ended up with the XJS!
I only intended running it for a year and then selling just to say i've owned a Jag. Not a good start then to drive the 20 miles home in it not realising that I had left the handbrake on. In my mind I can still see and smell the smoke from the handbrake pads to this day. So began the love/hate relationship of driving the best car I had ever owned combined with the joy of opening a constant stream of parcels of spare parts from David Manners Ltd and owning an ever increasing mountain of tools. I even had to build a new double garage so it would fit in. With smoke still rising I joined the JEC for a shoulder to cry on and I must say that the annual subscription is the most valuable thing that I've bought for it.
Somehow along the way it was briefly joined by a Series III V12 Sovereign when I had some hairbrained idea of building a Cobra replica. Sense was beaten into me by the use of a large frying pan by the wife so I became a dedicated XJS owner once more.
For a long time I had thought that I should do a full body restoration as it does look a bit rough close up but the reality is that it has little value and while it runs reliably I just keep it going. It has always been a second car so has never done a lot of work. When I bought it, it was a high mileage car, now its a low mileage car.
The longest trip I have done was the club documented Lands End / John O'Groats + outer Hebrides run where I remember somewhere near Wick seeing petrol for the first time reaching £1 per litre, horribly expensive!
I can't make the Coventry meeting and I do a lot of voluntary work on Sundays but I will be at Prescott Hill on 18th May and look forward to meeting friends old and new there.
Happy motoring, Pop (PS I'm not old!)

Fantastic post!
Congrats on so many years of dedicated XJS-S ownership.
You have been a stalwart of the BB since the early days which is much appreciated (certainly by me).
They're funny old things aren't they, they just seem to wheedle their way into your heart and your life. Despite the constant stream of bits to keep them going!
17 years is quite an achievement, well done!
