noise from rear whilst driving

Postby paul999 » Fri Feb 21, 2014 4:47 pm

Last week whilst driving I heard a noise which seems to point to a similar problem to SCIMI1 because it sounded to be as though the fuel tank was pulling a vacuum and then releasing it causing a "boing"type of noise. As SCIMI1 finished up having to have a damaged tank replaced I feel this problem needs a quick diagnosis. My local dealer has no knowledge of this problem, does anyone on the website? Thank you!

To the best of my knowledge, this is an unusual issue. Assuming you are right about creating a vacuum in the tank and to avoid making the problem worse, it would be best to have the car diagnosed quickly by either a main dealer or a Jaguar specialist. If you run with the fuel cap off and the filler nozzle obscured but vented you should be able to drive carefully (to minimise the risk of fuel slopping out and creating a fire hazard) to reach a workshop. Note that running without the filler cap being fully sealed may affect the engine's normal smooth running. If you have any doubts about driving there safely, have the vehicle recovered to a workshop. Or buy a plastic "emergency" cap from a garage and drill a small hole through it.....
