Take your car on a track day around the Nurburgring,
what could possibly go wrong?

And remember, they stand behind the crash barriers so you don't have to :-)

That's put me right off the idea!

That's not the half of it. When I was there in 2008, it was €1500 to be towed off the ring, €250 per Armco, a fee for grass seed PLUS a whopping €5000 per hour if you drop oil and they have to close the track. When you buy a ticket and drive, you automatically agree to those terms.

Go out with an instructor in their car is the only way I'd recommend.

I threw a big end bearing and managed to limp my car off the track and into the car park, at least 2 miles with the piston hitting the head. Looks of horror around the car park full of enthusiasts. It was an amazing experience, (third lap aside), but never again in my own car.

I've got the piston on a shelf in the garage as a reminder.

I wonder why there's no video of the "off" that causes the very visible tyre tracks heading straight to the camera position. ... :?:

There's an interesting article about Nurburgring insurang here

What a nightmare - there simply is no space for a decent run-off area. Looks horrendous in the wet! Note to self - only consider tracks with a decent run-off area!

We drove round it in 1984 in our BMW 320 when we lived out there working for Service Children's Education. It was a great experience on a wet October half term. Raining at the start, it turned to snow just after we swopped drivers - we wern't married then. Thankfully, fiancee kept cool control and didn't make a mistake (other than marrying me 6 months later!). I wouldn't do it now..................

Neither option for me. Done similar things and got fingers charred!

As I can`t feel a brake pedal well at present due to sciatica, I think I`ll leave this tear around stuff to adventurous types like your good selves.

Nice one Pop!
That's certainly dampened any enthusiasm I may have had.
That sweeping left hander with dodgy camber looks a problem tho it seems the correct racing line is on the near side verge! (3.52)
I AM determined to do a track day at Castle Coombe this year however, been meaning to do it for the last couple of years but never made the time. Quarry is real fun....... :? Last time I went round was in a P6 Rover 3500S on Classic and Sportscar Acton Day, as they used to say "remember it's not a race" .......yeh right
Boiled my brakes one year and nearly had a nasty coming together in the paddock on my "triumphant return", got trailered away on a break-down truck with my tail between my legs
However took much pleasure in fighting off a Triumph Stag for five laps another year.

Happy Days :D
