Re-chipping for economy

Postby Jagdcat » Fri Oct 11, 2013 3:06 pm

Hi

Has anyone re-chipped their AJ16 engine? It's normally the first thing I do when I purchase a car for the increased performance and fuel savings. However, it doesn't work for every car so your experiences would be welcome!

Nope,

But you might want to consider a revised crank position sensor bracket that can help achieve a similar goal. Certainly improved fuel consumption for my AJ16 Daimler Six.

andystodart@metronet.co.uk is your man for this (ex-Jaguar engineer).

Thanks, Rich

Just come back from a 250 mile round trip which was a mix of motorway, 'A' and 'B' roads - I have the manual 4.0 with Andy's bracket plus I filled up with 98 RON at the start and overall she has returned 27.5 mpg. I have to say that in some parts on the A roads I was very heavy footed - the standard 0-60 claimed by Jaguar is 6.9 seconds, but with Andy's mod I am sure it is around 6.0 because the car really flies. I am pleased with the mpg as I am sure if I drove gently all the while she would return 30+ - trouble is I just can't quite do it!

You can Google Andy Stodart - he produces a bracket to replace the bracket holding the crankshaft sensor on the front of the engine; this mechanically advances the timing and so improve acceleration. Some claim it improves mpg but I have not really noticed but then I am driving the car hard as I enjoy it! There is definitely an improvement in response - particularly when I use 98 RON petrol. It does not cost too much so is definitely worth the expense in my opinion and is an easy fit
