XJS BB EVENTS 2014

Postby dhdove » Sun Sep 01, 2013 6:18 pm

Hi All

With Southern Day over the show season is drawing to a close as the evenings get darker and the autumn is upon us.

However.....don't despair there's next season to think about! :D :D :D

Foolishly (I love it really!) I have volunteered to resume my role as Events Organiser for the XJS BB for next year and I'm already thinking of what we might get up to.
Top of my list is an early visit to the Coventry Motor Museum with arranged parking in front of the museum for our cars......April maybe?

If you have any suggestions do please post your ideas on this thread and we will see what we can do. I am only too aware that events tend to be "down south" so suggestions from further north are welcome. If they are VERY far north I may not be able to attend.......
....similarly Haynes Museum is a popular choice but I do realise it's not easy for anyone who lives any distance away from the south-west of England.

Perhaps you know of a Jaguar themed special event local to you next year?

As in the past I'm keen to have a road run down quiet twisty country roads before our arrival, perhaps we should have such a run just for its own sake? Tho' past experience shows that convoys are very difficult to organise over any distance.

Anyone fancy a "sports" event....hillclimb?

I'm hoping at this time to organise three events during the season so please don't be too disappointed if your suggestion is not taken up.

Very Best Wishes

Tony,
We'd be up for Coventry and Sparkford.

A few more ideas : Goodwood, Clarkes XJS specialist, KWE near Newbury, historic dockyard in Portsmouth, Imperial War Musem at Duxford, one of the hill climb courses (ie Shelsley Walsh, Prescott etc). Castle Bromwich factory visit.
Of course, it doesn't need to be a car related venue - I'm sure many stately homes or National Trust properties would welcome us and our better halves might appreciate that more!
I'm sure other people will have some better ideas!!

I always enjoy a bit of a run in company with fellow members but I take your point about keeping long convoys together.

If you'd like some help to share the burden please let me know
Regards

Some great ideas here. I should apologise for the lack of events this year (various reasons I won't go into here), but I would like to thank Tony for kindly volunteering to step-up and organise 2014!

For my two penith, Coventry and Duxford stand-out but happy to go along with anything really.

If your diary is handy put in it a reminder that a short Tour is already planned for next year's meet at Thoresby Hall. My plan is to put it on line so that anyone can get a copy of the 'Tulip Route' easily, and I hope to get it mentioned in the mag. 42 miles around the nicer parts of the Dukeries at your own time and pace with notable eateries and pubs mentioned. It will be for all members of course, not just XJS. If you are coming on the Friday or Saturday before it will give a nice run for anyone not familiar with the area.

I also organize a run on' National Drive-It day' each year which starts at Caenby Corner (east of Gainsborough at the A15/A631 crossrods) and meanders usually to a stately pile, about 80 miles, and you will be welcome if not already occupied.

All our events are on the JEC Lincs. North website and please feel free to join us if you see anything which appeals, or e-mail me personally.

Tony

Just a heads up that as part of our 30th celebrations for 2014 the Club is negotiating a date at one of the Hill-Climbs and I would hope to be able to firm that up in terms of details in the next couple of weeks. Good luck with all your events in 2014 and thanks for the support yesterday and throughout the year

PaulE

Will you please enlighten me, one of your county southern neighbours; what is a Tulip route?

Many thanks

Hello Neil,

it originated from the Tulip Rally in Holland (Where else?)

The road book had diagrams of every junction showing your approach direction ( a ball) and the direction to follow (an arrow head) and also the distance between each junction, very simple and easy to follow. E.g. assume travelling north approaching a cross roads and you needed to turn right, the diagram would be a cross, with a ball on the bottom leg and an arrow on the right arm.

Hi all,

I'm up for a visit at any/all of the places suggested. I failed in my attempts to get a gathering to see Paul Hands at Hyper Engineering but that was due to parking issues, so I will venture there alone one day soon or next year. KWE was an excellent visit when we went there previously.

How about supporting a JEC race meeting? I used to take part myself and it is a cracking day out so would be nice to show our support of the XJS's in our XJS's!

Glad someone can take this task on. Thank you Tony!

Here at the Lincolnshire North Region we organize numerous events all summer and encourage guests to join us from other regions. We meet at Arties Mill near Brigg where they have very reasonably priced and well tested rooms for those wishing to stay overnight . See our website for more, and do feel free to come along to whatever appeals,

Hi All

There seems to be some support for an April Coventry Motor Museum visit so I'll get the ball rolling on that soonest.

Looks like Lakes trip is off anyway.

I have been very fortunate to have secured a great venue for the APRIL 27th DRIVE - IT - DAY at the gorgeous Rockingham Castle. The space allocated on the Tilting Lawn will take 80 cars which is more than Lincs-North can fill, so I have invited several other Regions to join us, and I am pleased to extend the invite to XJS B/B readers. See www.rockinghamcastle.com for more info. I shall arrange a meeting point on the A1 near Colsterworth for coffee, then a scenic route from there, or just go straight there if more convenient. Please e-mail me so that I can keep a note of appx. numbers.
