Re: 1976 XJS Roof Lining
Hi Neddie - I'm assuming that you want to replace because the lining has sagged? This is a common problem as the foam backing on the "biscuit" that the headlining is glued to breaks down with age and heat. Usually it s not sensible to try retrimming the old biscuit as the crumbly foam just disintegrates again.
There are a number of sources of new head-linings that are based on a fibre glass biscuit that doesn't degenerate like the originals. They are easy enough to fit as they will go in and out of the doors without having to remove screens etc. I found it easier to remove the front seats to give room to work inside.
I think they are all the same for pre-facelift cars.
I'd suggest looking at some one like Myrtle Productions - www.myrtleprod.com

Re: 1976 XJS Roof Lining
If the fibre board is salvageable go for a retrim. The worst part of the job is getting the old foam and glue removed. Re-covering with proper “headlining” is the key. Try a local “Trimmer” and you will probably source the material and high temperature adhesive for around £40.00. It’s really not a difficult job, take it slowly and the rewards are great.
