Oxygen sensors

Postby ihouston » Mon Jul 15, 2013 10:12 am

Hi
can anyone tell me if they have changed the oxygen sensor on the passenger side before the cat - mine has failed - the job looks awkward but do able.
would be interested to hear from anyone that has or knows of anyone that has carried out this task and how they went about it.
Thanks
Ian

Like so many Jaguar tasks, access rather the difficulty of the task is the biggest problem! Mike.

On the subject of oxygen sensors and fault codes. I have recently had the engine light come on in my 2003 xk8. I have a code reader which shows fault code P1647. Looking up the code it translates as “Linear O2 sensor control chip (bank 2)”.
Putting this into SNG Barratt website and British Motor Parts website there is no result found.
Can anyone inform me what this is likely to mean? New O2 sensors come as a unit but does this include the control chip or is it a seperate unit.
Can one O2 sensor be replaced or is it necessary to replacee both as the parts suppliers sy two will be required.
Any advice and help welcome. Thanks

The item your looking for is a Heated Oxygen Sensor. Your sensor may have a failed (internal) heater, or it may be the oxygen sensing bit itself. It makes no difference to you as they both come within the same sealed unit - looks a bit like an oversized spark plug. There are four of them, two to each exhaust; an upper one on each system and a lower one. P1647 is the upper sensor in the lefthand side exhaust (nearside in a RHD car)

Part No is C2S51801. SNG Barrett are offering original OEM for about £160 and an After Market version for £80 (Special offer!)

Thanks Astromorg. My car developed the same fault yesterday - now I know which part to replace.
