Hi to all just to joined the JEC club so I thought I'll introduce myself because I'm sure ill be asking all kinds of stupid questions in near future ! I have recently bought myself a 1992 convertible 4.0 I also drive a new XJL, I have owned other classics in the past but this is the car I always promised myself, everything seems ok with her exept the air con is not working I'm hoping it just needs recharging,if not air con is not essential with a rag top! Looking forward to meet up at some events. Cheers Cliff

Re: New member
Cliff,
Welcome to the XJS section of the JEC Bulletin Board and congrats on the purchase of your convertible.
Unfortunately, I suspect that it won't just be a re-gas on the aircon. Aircon systems only need re-gassing because the gas has escaped somewhere, usually through one of the seals in the system. A decent aircon engineer will evacuate the system and then fill with an inert, traceable gas to determine where the leak may be.
If you update your profile to include your location, then other members may be able to recommend aircon specialists in your area. Also please remember to update your membership record with the details of your car. This is really important for the club to understand what cars are owned by members.
Good luck with fixing the aircon!
Paul

welcome
first of all , enjoy your XJS ownership , and tackle the ' issues ' when you feel like it
you dont mention if the aircon is on the original R12 , or 134a , if R12 , then you can use a drop in gas RS24 , and you dont have to change anything like you do for converting to 134a , as mentioned, do a Vacuum test first, then a leak test if no vac is held ,
btw, its a rule here, you must post pics of your car, or else.....lol

radio reset
Hi wonder if someone can tell me what im doing wrong! the two front speakers were not working,so I removed the radio found that one wire had come out of connecting block but also the connecter at the back of radio had some slight corrosion,so I have clean and repaired and replaced radio, and when prompted entered code, great everything is working, but now every time I get back in car the radio is asking for code!! I enter code and it all works again, but switch off leave car come back radio is not working and eventually ask for code again, then it all works until I switch off and we're back to square one
cheers Cliff

Cliff,
It sounds as if a permanent live feed on the wiring block is not connected properly. Start by checking and remaking all the connections properly in that wiring block.
Good luck

Re: New member
Cliff,
On a 92 car, check to see if you've got a White & Blue wire in the block. If so, it should go to Fuse 6 in the left-hand fuse panel with a 5a fuse. This is the circuit that controls the radio memory. Check the fuse and the block connection.

Hello!
Hi, new member here, from Dumfries, proud owner of a 4 litre coupe, auto, 123000 miles, bought about a month ago, and I'm loving it! She needs some work on certain things, but nothing too major, as far as I can tell. Brake discs and pads, head-liner, some bulbs, maybe a water pump, definitely a radiator recore, but that's about it. Stand by for questions!
