Octane type

Postby lowebird » Sun Jun 02, 2013 11:04 pm

:?: I run a 4.2 engine which has been completely rebuilt by VSE. My question is: Can I safely run on 95 octane petrol ( 2star ) It has a 123 dizzy and I'm not bothered about ultimate performance.

Thank you

Hello Lowebird,

I suggest you speak to VSE as they will know what compression pistons they fitted but I would expect that they will be the standard (8:1 ?) compression.
I would expect that you will not have any problems as long as you adjust the timing to avoid pinking. Do try and set the distributor to as near as Jaguar specification as possible, especially with regard to maximum advance. If you are not aware, excessive advance at higher RPM can cause serious and virtually undetectable damage to your engine until it's too late, i.e. you cannot hear it.
