Postby robv12 » Sat Apr 13, 2013 11:20 am

well looks like I will be joining the ranks of X Type owners

fingers crossed the deal was done a moment ago on a 2005 2.5 Sport estate, manual, silver, black leather, will come with 12 months mot, seller is putting two new tyres on the front and attending to an illuminated eml for me, saves me the trouble!!, other wise a nice up and together car at 106K miles, not expensive either imo, way below £3K

mines on proper fuel , drives well, tight no knocks, needs a wheel refurbing and a gear knob being picky, and it will get a CD changer once it is here

looked at a few, chased a few, which is not the norm for me as cars usually come to me with "are you the guy that buys Jaguars"!!, I was shocked and surprised at how sellers did not want to sell their cars, private and trade, one on ebay, four days of emails and messages, nothing back diddly squat, another one, trade this time, car was hot and just used when I got there, a five cylinder X Type, the rare one !!, "no idea mate its been here for about three months and not been used, we'll have a look at it for you before you take it away if you buy it", a dog of a thing, Mrs J told him so, and then the fight started!!!, so remember this reg and steer clear

Image

the guy we bought off, seems to be a thoroughly likeable chap, nothing has been too much trouble, he WANTED to sell car, up front, honest, told us all the niggles up front "in case you dont want to travel all that way", and as a fellow salesman I like that. a good experince so far

Car is in for MOT and two tyres on Monday, we will then get the nod to part with our cash, hope all goes well

drove the X Type home last night from Yorkshire, intial impressions, I like it, drives well, pokey enough for an everyday run around

one or two niggles to fix, easy though, one bulb out (done) needs a pair of new wiper blades, a decent gear knob, a cd changer, a full size spare, Aruba 18 inch, if any one can help me out with any of the above pm me, not wipers obviously!!!

The secret of keeping the War Office happy is this, as BB says, buy her a Jaguar of her own, the 350R is really Mrs J's, so she gets the best car of the lot as an everday summer car, winter months anything we have that is old and cheap!!, and then occasionally I take here to look at and test drive something truly delightful such as an old Kia, or similar, the last one was a 53 plate Suzuki Alto, a remarkably horrible car , "here you go dear this good be your winter car this year", conversion back to a Jaguar after this experinece is like taking candy of a baby!!!, try it some day

X Type woes, well, service, kit bought, pollen, air, oil, fuel filters plus sump plug, £37.00 from the main dealer, who said Jaguars were expensive??, wiper blades from Halfrauds, trade card bought then down to £8.99 the pair, easy two hours work, NOT, Halfords have changed the fixing on their blades, 20 minutes of swearing and cursing finally got them sorted, then a quick trip over a spare wheel sent me flying into the boot of one of our 40's the screwdriver in hand made a superb scratch up the boot lid, at the same time my garage wall saw to my knuckles nicely as a fell to the floor in a heap, bugger, carry on regardless, remove plastic cover to access pollen filter, lean on expansion tank (I know all you X Type owners know this, but I didn't, I DO NOW!!) break off over flow pipe flush with header tank, double bugger, come in search ebay for replacement, this morning call SNG Barratts for a new one, £66.00 inc vodka and tonic, Jaguars ARE expensive!!

:) Don't knock the Kia. Had two (Sportage) now from new, both with seven years warranty and free recovery anywhere in Europe :D Oh and great tow car. Just what I needed for the caravan.
Here's one for you both :) Wife looking at a S-Type quite simply because she likes the look of it and the colour. :D
How lucky is that then.

Oh Rob,

Have you not learnt by now the dangers of revealing your strategies with the "dark side" and cars..

There has to be a mega blackmail opportunity in this to stop those of us who now know how you "manage" Mrs J's motoring aspirations...

My Swiss bank account details to follow.
