If you have the chrome surround complete with glass off the car, you could try the way I managed it. I squirted the rubber beading with WD40 and let it soak for a while. I then took a flat bladed screwdriver and pushed it in between the glass and the rubber at the top of the quarterlight. With a bit of jiggling with the screwdriver, the glass should start to move out of the frame. A few more squirts of WD40 every now and then resulted in the glass coming out without any damage. New seals are still available and getting it all back in along with the glass is just a case of pressing the rubber seal partially home, locating the glass in the seal and then squeezing the whole set up in something like a workmate to push the glass and seal fully home. WD40 helps at this stage as well! Good luck!! :P

From memory (it was a good few years ago!) there was no sealant used. The glass is pressed into the rubber channel pretty hard so it's most likely that the rubber is sticking through age and pressure. You could also try heating the whole quarterlight in boiling water to soften the rubber! I know it was rather nerveracking at the time and it did take a good bit of persuasion to free the glass. At least getting it back in with a new seal is somewhat easier!
