Hello,
While driving back from Germany , the engine stalled when slowing down from 150kph to 50 kph - have to slow down when crossing border into Holland. The same happened when crossing into France from Belgium. Car restarted immediately with some white smoke. A bit concerning as both times we were in the outside lane. The rest of the journey back to Durham was fine. Any ideas as I am thinking about bringing the car back to Germany when the weather improves and I don't have to use winter tyres (they are brilliant) - I spend a lot of time in Germany.
best wishes

Re: Engine stalled on motorway
Hi Geof ,
Your model year of XK100 should have been subject to a recall and the fitting of an improved throttle body as earlier version suffered the same symptoms you are having , this was done by Jaguar free of charge but they no longer honour the arrangement , was yours fitted with the upgraded throttle body
Hope this helps
Nik
PS Mine was upgraded free of charge about five years ago

Re: Engine stalled on motorway
Hello Nik,
My xk8 is 1997 but I have little history - main owner in the past died and books lost. I did research things and spoke to the garage he used but no real detail. Consequently I had the tensioners etc updated to latest type, new water pump and thermostat housing replaced when I bought it. Is there any way I can find out if the car had the throttle body updated ? If not is it worth sourcing a replacement.
Quite an alarming experience when the engine stalled and I had to try to get to the hard shoulder - my partner refusing to drive the car now !
Best wishes

Hi Geof,
For your 97MY I believe the throttle body cap was chrome , later fitments are black plastic ,
Hope this helps ,

Re: Engine stalled on motorway
Hello Nik,
Thanks for the information. Unfortunately I am back in Germany so I can't check at the moment. Maybe I can get my friend, who does any work on my car to check.
Thanks

Re: Engine stalled on motorway
Hi
I had exactly the same problem with my 97 XK8.
Mine would stall on the motorway when ticking along which is pretty hairy!.
I bought a second hand throttle body from Jag Spares Northeast and my local mechanic fitted it and problem sorted!.
Total cost for the part and labour was about £200.
Best of luck with getting yours fixed!.
Best regards
Dave
