Does anyone know how to access precise dates of manufacture, given a VIN, and when the last examples of each S-Type model rolled off the line in Castle Bromwich?
I'd love to know what day were the last S-Type and the last S-Type R models were made.
I'm asking because I have a feeling I own one of the last S-Type R made. It is a 2008 model. But it was made in late June 2007. It has unusual specifications for an S-Type R, and Jaguar kept the car stored away for 18 months until December 2008.
I sure would love to hear from anyone who knows how to access this sort of information.

Re: Dates of Manufacture
had you asked this a year ago, I may have been able to source the information, and I stress MAY
I have some of those details for 40 / 300 and some 308 info, but only the bits I wanted or needed, so I can tell you detailed info on certain models in those ranges, and broader production figures on each model
but to get specfic dates at begining and end of each model would have been difficult even back then, the info I have took years of research sat at various computers and desks at Jaguar Heritage wading through a huge amount of information
if you would like to PM me your vin and some specific requests for info, I will see what I can do for you, no promises though

Re: Dates of Manufacture
Hi TabbeII and welcome. I have heard of one other STR being registered in 2008, perhaps it was yours either when it was up for sale or on another forum, anyway I would be interested in the 'unusual specifications for an S Type R', perhaps you could post up some pictures of your Car.
I own one of the early STR'S registered 17th April 2002 and you probably already know that 129 were built in 2007.
Doug.

Re: Dates of Manufacture
Hi robv12,
Thank you for showing interest in my information quest. Any help you can render will be much appreciated!
I have to confess - I wasn't expecting it to be difficult to find out when a modern car was made, my 2007 or 2008 STR in particular. I work in the electronic manufacturing business, and if you give me the S/N for one of our products - I can instantly tell you everything about that exact tool, including where the raw materials came from, and for sure - the date of manufacure.
I suspect Jaguar Cars has all the information I'm looking for. Maybe I should ask Jaguar, or the Jag Heritage folks...

Re: Dates of Manufacture
Hi robv12,
Some of the basics on my 2008 (I think) Emerald Fire S-Type-R:
VIN (chassis number) : SAJAC03RX81N85862
Rgistration : BL07MYX
First registered : June 29 2007
This car has 10,000 miles on it, and it's in absolute flawless showroom condition.
I'm interested to know when the last right hand drive S-Type-R was made. Even if my car isn't the very last one made - it's got to be one of the last dozen, or so. I really hope it is the last STR. If it is, I want to know, and make sure it's treated with great care and preserved for posterity.

Re: Dates of Manufacture
The S-Type-R is a rare and interesting car.
There were only 1,274 RHD STR's built betwen 1999 and 2007. Compare that to the Ferrai Dino - 3,761 built between 1969 and 1974, or the Lamborghini Countach - 2,042 built between 1974 and 1990. When you consider the STR i) would blow the doors off a Dino and keep up to most Countaches in a drag race, ii) is far more pleasent to drive than either one, iii) cost less than half what a Countach cost in 1990 - I think the STR is a pretty interesting car!
Here is some STR production data I found posted on another Jag site. Honest - I don't remember which site I found these figures on, and sadly, I didn't record the name of the person who, thankfully, posted the figures, for which I'm grateful. The person who posted these figures said: "The figures were given to me by Jaguar and not just pulled from the blue."
Unit production figures for S-Type R:
1999 to 2001 - 3
2002 - 520
2003 - 205
2004 - 107
2005 - 163
2006 - 147
2007 - 129
Total of 1,274 S-Type-R produced for UK Market.
Total of 295,000 S-Types produced, all models.
For me, this data begs the questions:
How do we go about verifying these figures?
Is the 295,000 figure the total worldwide S-Type units ever produced, or just UK units?
What was the total worldwide S-Type-R production?
What day was the last S-Type-R for the UK made, and what is its VIN?

Re: Dates of Manufacture
Not sure if it's any help but I went to a local Jaguar agent (Lincoln) to buy the diff and gearbox oil. being cheeky I asked for the history/build sheet of my car and have 3 pages including main dealer servicing dates. It gives a dispatch date and a sold date.

Re: Dates of Manufacture
this info is called the DDW, or Direct Dealer Warranty, any one can ask for this print out from a Jag dealer, it is good for all cars as far back as at least 1992, this is as far back as I have needed to go, it will give you all the "birth" details of your car, spec, extras, date of manufacture etc etc

That sounds very interesting. Maybe I'll waddle down to mylocal Jag dealer and see what I can dig-up. Given there's more than 2,000 miles on the last oil change - it's time for a service anyway!

Hi Doug,
I'll get some pics organized. I've tried to register the car and upload some pics there, but the register thing doesn't want to cooperate with me.
My STR has a very luxurious interior with ivory leather and dark piping upolstery and burr walnut paneling. Any STR I've seen has perforated sport leather and aluminum paneling and the STR gear knob. Inside my car there's no indication that it's an "R" spec car. The ony clue is the small "Supercharged" printed on the instrument panel. It even has a wooden gearknob! It doesn't have the "R" badges on the front fenders either.
I really look forward to joining you guys at one of your shows some day so show my STR off along side yours!
Re: Dates of Manufacture
We are always pleased to hear from people who are so enthusiastic about their cars.
Interesting details about your own car. Any chance of an article and images for the magazine? Don`t be shy. Members input is what it is all about. Send to Nigel direct if you wish. If you need any help, I`m always happy to advise, edit or otherwise assist.
I`m a tad short of copy material at the moment so anything you guys can generate would be much appreciated.
Our web master should pick up on any posting difficulties. If there is a posting glitch, we will try to clear it asap. These things happen occasionally.

Re: Dates of Manufacture
If you have a photobucket or flickr account you could upload pictures to there and copy links.
Jaguar stopped fitting the front wing R badges from 2004 facelift on, some owners bought and fitted them later.
The Birdseye proper wood trim changed to the mock aluminium then too.
The STR front Leather seats were both embossed with an R just below the headrest, as far as I know this remained after the facelift as did the chrome and leather gear shift, with R badge .
It is possible that someone, or Jaguar have specced the car to suit the owner or employee.
One other strange thing is the model year identifier in your vin, (tenth character in) the number 8 refers to the Model Year, I always thought that that had to be the year the car was built, as Jaguar parts (like other manufacturers) use that part of the Vin to identify the Car when ordering parts, my own car Vin has a 2, hence 2002.
What size of wheels do you have 19"
Are the brake calipers Brembos.
How many Air Filter boxes are there in the engine bay, one or two.
Sorry but this next part is going to disappoint you, had a look through some of my pictures from when I was looking for my STR and came across this limited edition STR by Jaguar Dealer Stratstone, its a 57 plate and its no 27 of 50. The limited editions had mostly cosmetic additions, though I believe they upgraded the brakes back to Brembos which were dropped at the 2004 facelift, hence the reason I asked you the 3 questions above, as either you have something special factory built, or perhaps its been someones project car.

Re: Dates of Manufacture
I'll try to get some pictures uploaded for everyone to have a look at my car. It has the 19" Barcelona wheels, and the brakes sure look like Brembo brakes, although they don't say Bembo on them, but they do have the R designation on the calipers. I'mnot sure how many air filters the engine has, but I'll go look, it certainly has a supercharger. Here's at least one pic:If you have a photobucket or flickr account you could upload pictures to there and copy links.
