Warranty

Postby billxk8 » Fri Oct 05, 2012 8:52 pm

I am now only a few weeks short of my first 6 months owning my 2000 XK8 and as well as being gorgeous it has run faultlessly. The car came with 6months warranty and now the warranty company AutoProtect are offering to extend the cover for a further period.

The deal is 1 year cover £250, 2years £299, or 3 years cover for £399.

The cover is for parts and labour at my garage for up to £1000 max per claim. There is no excess.

Has anyone had any experience of these policies.

A one off payment of £399 for 3 years cover of up to £1000 per claim seems good value , remembering consumables such as tyres, pads and servicing are not covered.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
Personally i think a warranty is a bit like gambling, you could hand over the £399, sit back and relax thinking you have no worries should anything go wrong. Should something go wrong you will have to meet all terms and conditions in the small print such as service history etc. Make sure you know exactly what is and is not covered. Alternatively you could tuck your hard earned cash away in an ISA and pick up a little interest on it and hope all goes ok, or you could use the money to have your transmission serviced which would help protect your investment, preventative maintenance such as this will help ensure nothing goes wrong. I have had my S Type for two years and have not had any repairs done that would have been covered by a warranty, only consumable items have been replaced plus normal servicing and a transmission service. I've never bought a warranty and have never regreted it, ultimately its your call and only you can decide. Hope this helps in some way. :?

Hi Bill ,
In my experience these warranty's are a waste of money , they don't normally cover fair wear and tear just "breakages" , save £400 a year in a special XK bank account and with luck you will have a contingency fund for a few repairs ,

All the best ,

Hi Bill,
I too have a MY2000 XK8 and had it getting on to 9 years now. It was 3.5 years old when I got it and it came with a full 12-month Jaguar warranty. I renewed it for the next year for £130, but no work was required under these warranties ( I covered about 30k miles in these 2 years). The premium shot up to around £600 pa, so I said thanks, but NO thanks.

I would look very carefully of what is actually included and more importantly, what is not included in these warranties (which looks to be a 3rd party outfit).

I tend to think the advise of the previous answers make good sense.
