XJS Mudflaps and Fuel Gauge problems

Postby PEGGYPLUGIT » Mon May 08, 2006 10:15 pm

Dear All

I am new to this sort of thing (Forums) I normally surf the web for Jaguar
technical sites for information. But a friend of mine recommended this site
as a possible place to get information from other XJS owners who may be
able to help.

I have recently purchased a XJS 4.0 Convertible and am trying to obtain a
set of Front and Rear Jaguar XJS Mudflaps. As the car was manufactured in 1993 and the Mudflaps are no longer made I have been unable to find a set. If anyone knows where I could obtain a set I would be much obliged.

I also have a small problem with the Fuel Gauge/or Fuel Tank. When turning around a Right hand bend the Fuel gauge goes to E and the Fuel light comes on for a second, the gauge then returns to the normal position. When turning around a Left corner the Fuel gauge indicates an increase in the fuel level, and then returns to normal when the road is straight. Does anybody know if this is normal or is there a remedy. It seems unlikely that Jaguar would let this happen in such a luxury car.

I look forward to any help with these matters.

David Manners http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Manners/company.asp may be able to help with the mudflaps. The rears JLM341 are listed up to my1993.5 The fronts are JLM9773 but I don't know what year these will fit.
It was always the case that the fronts were not recommended after the wider section tyres were introduced in the '80s as they can rub at full lock.

Mike,

A few things you could look at in respect of the fuel gauge. Have a look at this thread:

http://www.jec-xjs-forum.org.uk/xjsbb2/ ... c.php?t=38

In my opinion, the gauges on facelift cars are not terribly accurate anyway, so I wouldn't hold too much store by the Jaguar luxury car expectation.

The rear mudflaps are different on "big-bumper" cars, to reflect the contour of the plastic bumper in the wheel arch. If yours is a 93 car, it's very likley to be this model. Sets do turn up on places like ebay, occasionally. You could also try a breaker. In fairness, you don't see many cars with them fitted.

Good Luck

Hey when you find out what it is with your fuel guage let me know I could do with some extra fuel in the tank, if I can find a journey entirely composed of left-hand turns! :-)
