Evening All.
Just had my remote servo (Delphi type 6 or 7) rebuilt with a stainless steel liner and some other bits replaced. I came to fit it back on the car and noticed that its location and orientation do not match the installation instuctions.
It should be fitted at an angle of 25-45 deg with the slave cylinder pointing "up hill" but mine is a lot less than that. I'd guess 10 deg.ish at best.
Also, because of its location it is twisted 90 deg relative to the instuctions. This means the slave cylinder inlet port is above horizontal. I don't think this is a problem as I should be able to bleed the fluid through OK. Unless anyone knows different?
So the question is. Anyone got this arrangement and how critical is the mounting angle?
The follow up question.
I have the opportunity now of filling the system with any brake fluid I like. It has DOT 5.1 non silicone base in at the moment. Do I stick with this or change for something else?
Cheers,
Nigel
P.S. Sorry about the description above but I can't think how to describe it better. Hopefully someone will have fitted one of these and know what I mean.

Re: Remote Servo/brake fluid.
Have managed to get in touch with the people who overhauled the servo and they tell me I need to use DOT 4 fluid to avoid any problems with the rubber seals in the servo and master cylinder, which is pretty much what I thought from reading early posts.

Re: Remote Servo/brake fluid.
Hi Nigel
DOT 5.1 would have been fine but NOT DOT 5, which is silicone based.
DOT 5.1 is usually called racing fluid and is a development of DOT4 but offers a higher boiling point with consequential less brake fade. It is generally a little more expensive.

Re: Remote Servo/brake fluid.
Thanks Stuart.
I have been told it's a lubrication issue which can cause problems with the seals in the cylinders.
Just done a completely unscientific back to back test and can "confirm" that DOT 4 is slicker than DOT 5.1 which is slightly sharper to the touch.
Also, I have about 200ml of DOT 5.1 and 3.5 litres of DOT 4 on the shelf. Decision made
Have spent today relocating the servo to something like the correct angle. Complete pain in the posterior but it's done now.
Cheers for now,
Nigel
