transmission oil change

Postby paul999 » Wed May 09, 2012 9:49 pm

Could anyone please let me know if they have had this done anywhere local to Sheffield please.I have had many and various quotes for this job.The price has differed by as much as £250 from cheapest to the most expensive and time wise from half a day to overnight. My xkr has 46000 miles recorded but Iam the third owner (31/2 yrs).I suspect that the chirupping sound if I accellerate briskly is slippage and an additive will cure this.Obviously I want to pay as little as possible but I would want the job doing correctly with the proper materials.I have no problems with the gearchanges it is nice and smooth barely being able to tell when the changes are taking place. There seem to be various schools of thought on this operation between do it every 50 000 mls and leave it if its working ok.However I do believe in preventitive maintenance.Any help would be gratefully received, thanks.

Hi Paul,
Nailing my colours to the mast, I believe in preventative maintenance rather than leaving things to chance simply to improve a car's marketing credentials by way of lower theoretical maintenance costs. Living in Sheffield, you could do worse than visit Dave Marks's garage at Notingham for an oil change. Dave does the job properly and has done more changes than he's had hot dinners. Mike.
