Tried both those guys but they advise they are like getting hens teeth :( I got a quote from another Jag dealer today which is about £1100 less  but on reflection am now beginning to think we may have our wires crossed. Were there 2 types fitted? standard cruise control or adaptive cruise control. If yes does anyone have a part no for the ACC one.

BBA Reman, ecu/module reconditioners are worth a contact. I believe the operate from Rochester in Kent.

I wonder if this is the part you need. There is a spelling mistake on one of these two links which says "adaptive speech control" which I think should read "adaptive speed control".

No prices quoted but £150 surcharge would appear to be applied against return of old unit.

Yes, there were two versions of cruise control, standard and adaptive. I'm pretty sure there were several variations of part number for the adaptive unit so the best way of getting the right one would be to remove the inoperative unit and check the part number on it. Mike.

I spoke to the garage again (2nd one) and their technicians still not 100% certain unit needs replacing, apparently the error message quoted doesn't neccessarily mean unit faulty, it might just be bad wiring or connection so they want to give it a quick look over before I commit to such a large expense (pretty good of them I thought  ). They will also see if they can get the part on "sale or return" so that if I do need it I wont have to make a 2nd trip to them, understandably they don't want to be left with such an expensive item. Car booked in for this thursday so won't know any more till then. Error message apparently Code B1342 (ACC Control module internal failure) if that means anything to anyone although seems conclusive to me :?

Hi Walter,
At least you have someone using a degree of common sense. Far too often, inexperienced operators treat dignostic results as infallible and they are not! However, considering the relatively small number of early cars fitted with ACC, failure of the modules does appear to be a problem. Good luck. Mike.

Hi Walter ,
Food for thought  ....... if this module is anything like the ABS module it could be just one or two dry soldered joints ,
it may be as simple as carefully hacksawing the plastic casing open , re-soldering and glueing it back together again , I'd email David Marks on this before you go spending big money , if it is a fault with the module itself you have nothing to lose by dismantling it

Hope this helps ,

Well I think that's it sorted :) Garage did full check and a road test and decided module definately at fault. They replaced it, did a road test and calibrated it. worked fine all the way home so fingers crossed :D :D . Unit was on exchange so don't have old one to play with or configure as stand-by. Still cannot understand £1000 difference between 2 branches of same dealership :? Next task is front parking sensors but will use fresh thread for that. Thanks for all your responses anyway, much appreciated.

By the way car got through MOT no problems next day

My XKR 2003 is also showing that the ACC is no longer working (Cruise not available message). The garage have checked and they believe it is the main ACC unit that is at fault and have tried to find one. The only one they can get is a new one from Jag at £1500+ which sounds like a lot of money to me!! Does anyone know where I might find a recon unit or do you have any experience of having a unit removed, repaired and refitted?
Any helpful comments very much appreciated!!
Andy.

Hi Andy_Aquila,
Sorry to hear of your problem with your XKR, this type of problem can be so frustrating to find the actual cause.
This link might help or at least give you an insight of what might cause the problem.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8- ... ure-90835/

There is also this company which claims to repair the module if it is that which has gone.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Repair-Servi ... Sw4D5aidc2

There are also Jaguar Breakers which might have a second hand one, this one has good reviews but I have not used them myself. They might be worth a call.

https://www.facebook.com/GPCcarparts/

JaguarClassicParts has a very detailed exploded view of the whole ACC set up which I found very interesting.

Anyway hope some of this helps a bit and you get the problem solved eventually.
Enjoy the luxury

I had this problem a few months ago on my on my 2004 XKR. Turned out to be a sticking switch on the forward alert. It's the switch on the right in the picture. I prised out the switch and attacked it with every available tool until it admitted defeat and stopped sticking. The hazard light switch apparently suffers the same problem. Check this before spending a lot of money :D

I know what's wrong, and if I could find it, I'd fix it.

Many thanks both for the very helpful information. I will try and track down a replacement or a repair company. I have checked the switch but there is no evidence of it sticking. Nevertheless I will try and get it out and clean it just to be sure!

Again many thanks.
Andy
