This link is to a JWM article, December `06 on 2.7D diesel tuning.

Odd that they say because the car was an auto, that it couldn`t be put on the rolling road. Can`t quite understand that because my petrol V8 auto had no issues at Paramount when it was tested and then chipped. The programmer just had to catch the car before the rev limiter kicked in.

After chipping, the 2.7D tested exhibited 62bhp more than before being tweaked. The text says 68bhp. Most companies dealing in this type of work would say that 25hp increase was the norm. Certainly 62bhp or 68bhp is quite a large increase to obtain over standard. Anyway, it is written in ink, so it must be right.

I have been considering "chipping" my diesel S Type, but upon reading the performance graphs no difference in the torque or power curves is indicated below 2500 rpm which suggests no gain below 80 mph in top for autobox equiped cars.
Yjis concludes me to think there is no performance gain, in an engineering sense, for all practicable, real road conditions.
Is this the case? What are the opinions and experiences of fellow owners?

Hi Mike,

I am aware that your post is not a new one however I am new on here and thought I would just add to it anyway for the benefit of any other members who have perhaps considered this.

I had a Stage 1 Remap on my 2.7 S Type and the final results on the rolling road were 240.5bhp, 486.73Nm / 359Ft 1bs of Torque.

The car straight away felt more alive, responsive and no flat spots from pulling away right throughout the rev range. I thought the difference in performance was noticeable and I was very impressed with the results.

Your remap sounds a good one, Steve.

Std car has 206BHP with 436Nm torque ex-factory, compared to your remap figure of 240BHP and 486Nm of torque. Those figures are realistic whereas the original link I posted were rather ...how shall be say...overly optimistic!

I like remapped cars. They drive easier and as you say feel more alive. Manufacturers tend to de=tune their products to allow for poor fuel, rough servicing and also reduce the possibility of a car being " over driven" during its warrenty period to minimise claims during the period. This leaves a considerable margine for after-market tuning which can be done by good tuning guys using remaps which open up unlocked potential in a safe manner. Nothing wrong with that at all.

If we look back to the Rolls Royce Merlin, the original 1200hp early engines nearly had their power doubled in five years. All that with very little done to the basic core engine assembly with most of the extra grunt cumming from Sir Stanley Hooker making use of better supercharger technology and higher octane fuels. All done with safety and economy in mind.....well not quite. But it does demonstrate the point and show that a remap is quite safe for our cars and in my opinion worth every penny of the price paid to liven things up a bit. I recall my last remap on my XJR350 set me back £540 and really sparkled up a rather lethargic car for use around town and for A and B road driving. On the dual carriage way and motorway, the results are quite indecent!! Let go the catapult. That`s what its like.

I`m not suprised you are pleased. A good remap makes a huge difference.
