straight port head

Howdy Chaps, quick question that is not really a bother, but i'm just interested - My mark 11 was fitted with a straight port head, part number C26200. anyone know to what vehicle this head was originally fitted ??

Hi Bignose
The straight port head was fitted to the XK engine after the late 60's, but started life in the XK150 'S' models. From a Mk 2 perspective, these heads were fitted to the 240 and 340 saloons.

thanks David, I'm pretty familiar with the useage of the head, but was wondering if anyone could tell me from what specific vehicle a straight port head with the part number C26200 came from. I've got a couple of parts books - as you quite rightly say, the 3.4 XK 150 had a straight port head, part number C12600; the 3.8 part number was, i think C14957. But I can't find from what car a C26200 came from. As you quite rightly say, I also thought it might have been fom an 340, but according to my parts book a 7J head(340) has a part number of C27495 !! - anyway, it's not really a problem, i was just interested to know what engine it came from !!

Sorry for the misunderstanding. As you say, C27495 was fitted to 240/340 models. My parts manual lists a C26201 fitted to late 'BJ' engines, but I'm not sure whether this was a straight port; it had a different arrangment of valve guides with a locating circlip. You might be better going by the engine number, which should be stamped on the front face of the cylinder head casting (assuming it was second hand, of course).
