Cannot open boot lid on W Reg XK8

Hi All

I have accidentally pressed the Valet button. According to the Drivers Manual the only way to open the boot is with the black key. However, the key tuns in the lock but dosen't unlock the boot. I suppose the lock has't been used for sometime, I have only just bought the car so am getting aquainted with its little foibles!!

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated

Hi Peter,
Try squirting some WD40 into the key hole and turning the key repeatedly , it should free up eventually but don't force it ,
as an ongoing maintaintance , operate the boot with the key everytime you wash the car , this should prevent the lock siezing in the future

Try gentle downward pressure on the boot lid - it reduces the friction on the latch. I could not get mine to open with the key, and with a flat battery, things were looking a bit grim. But pushing down on the lid took the strain off the latch & it opened easily.
