Hi,
I hate to say it but, unless you are very familiar with modern car electrics and canbus systems, the electrics on XK8s are not simple to work on! Without full diagnostics (either Autologic or Jaguar's own systems) you are pretty much restricted to checking and cleaning earthing points and the continuity of fuses. Even with the correct diagnostic kit, it still needs an experienced auto electrician to interpret the results correctly otherwise you could still risk a lengthy (expensive) path of trial and error, substituting one component after another to find a fault.
More specifically, have the fobs ever worked for you? If they haven't, they might need programming to the car (search the BB archive for details). Alternatively, it's not unknown for people to buy fobs on ebay that were destined for other markets where different radio frequencies are used. The boot mounted modules, like the security and locking module, can become damaged by water ingress, as can the connectors which should be checked for corrosion and pins backing off. If the boot fuse box has no identification label for its fuses, check the vehicle care book for information. During the XK8's run, Jaguar eliminated fuse box labelling, presumably to make life on the production line easier at times of change. Mike.

Re: XKR Central Locking Problem
We replaced the security module for a customer yesterday. Fobs had been working for months then suddenly stopped. It was a case of water ingress which was slow and had damaged the original unit.Hi,

Totally agree regarding the diagnostic kits. Fault code readers and diagnostic systems are very useful tools but they only really give a starting point on a path to resolving issues.
