LPG Convertions

Postby shugmcd » Tue Nov 01, 2011 11:50 pm

Had a look today at an XF that has just been converted to LPG - wow, what a feat of engineering!!!

We think that this is the first XF in the UK to have been converted to LPG - unless anyone else knows otherwise? Convertion was completed early 2011.

Will be writing this up for Jaguar Enthusiast.

Anyone have any thoughts on this procedure?

Over the years, we have had a few articles published about gas conversions on S-types with V6 &V8 engines. The S- is of course the platform upon which the later XF was derived and utilising similar power units.

The best article was written by Keith Mugglestone who is acknowledged as one of the countries leading gas converters.

Some controversy exists regarding the need for an additional lubrication system to replace friction reducing qualities of "wet" petrol. Gas is a rather dryer fuel and lost lubrication provided by a metering system is thought necessary to help replace this loss.

That aside, there should be no reason why a decent gas installation on an XF should be any less successful than on other previous Jaguar models.

Choose the gas installer by reputation and you probably won`t go wrong.

Couldn't agree more with Mike's last comment about the choice of installer.

I think this is an area where you most definitely get what you pay for.

Anyone in XFland considering such a conversion?

Hugh
