Hey Guys
I,ve a couple of niggles that i hope someone can help me with.
1.The interior lights fuse keeps blowing the last time it was replaced the lights worked for around a month then i noticed when we had rain the fuse blew. I replaced it a couple of days later and it blew around the second time of the lights being actuated.
2.Some times the dash warning light for the air bags starts flashing then stays on permenantly until i switch the engine off, and its ok when you restart but sometimes does the same thing. This problem is becoming more frequent.
Cheers guys

Firstly I`ve tried to find a link between the two problems using the hard copy information that I hold together with utilising feed back I `ve received from other members and my own experience with the S-type.

Firstly, has the correct size fuse been installed on the interior lighting circuits.

This should be fuse nober 5 in the boot fuse box. 10amp red mini. If the fuse blows, check the circuit with a multimeter to ascertain whether you have a circuit short to earth. This could be caused by a simple door switch which has fallen to pieces allowing a short down.

Check also the wiring loom on the offside boot hinge arm. The looms can become stretched and then break causing short circuits to occur.

The spare wheel well should be clear of any standing water. This can cause a problem with the rear fuse box. The boot seal is known to cause water ingress unless in perfect condition.

As regards the airbag illumination problem this is perhaps more difficult to itemise. The control unit is hard mounted on the transmission tunnel behind the heater/aircon and radio cluster. I believe this means a panel out job to access! Not nice.

Try my favourite tactic when I experience electrical gremlins. Disconnect the battery for twenty minutes. This will clear down the computor memory and wipe of any old junk fault codes. Believe it or not that is what an Autologic or other unit does before interogation begins. Remember to have the radio code handy when you re connect. The clock will need setting up again. You might be lucky and extinquish the airbag lamp.

If all else fails, the car will need interogation. A good Jaguar indipendent should be able to help you at reasonable cost.

Sorry I can`t be more helpful.

Kind regards,

Mike

You might find an electrician via our Recommended suppliers section on this site. It has been produced in geographical areas to make it easy to find someone near you.

Have you an indipendent Jaguar operator near by? If you have one, that is where I would be going.

Testing with an interogation machime is always the first thing to have done with a modern Jaguar. Circuit diagrams and access to documentation are not easy to get hold of unless you pay a daily/weekly/monthly fee to the Jaguar WDS net site. As we found out at the diagnostic seminar, fault finding is a rather different a technique to the methods we used in our youth.

The work is not impossible but obtaining the information you need is often the most difficult part!
