Matching numbers

Postby NOURTON » Wed Jul 07, 2010 9:04 am

Hi. I wonder if someone can explain the term 'Matching numbers' please.
I own a Fixed Head Coupe with the chassis number in the series 1E2---- and the engine number in the series 7E1---- so as far as I can see, these numbers can never match.
The cylinder head and block have the same numbers stamped on them.
Many thanks

Neil

Hi Neil
The term refers to the numbers matching those that the car originally had when leaving the factory, thus ensuring the car is original in its major components, Engine GBox, Body, Frame.

If in doubt regarding what your numbers should be you can get a heritage certificate for a few pounds which lists all the relevant details
