My Jag's Resto Pictures

Postby SimonR » Thu Nov 03, 2005 8:32 pm

Having seen some of JONC's pictures of the work that's progressing on his S and also a request for more images of restoration I've been inspired to scan and upload some pics of the resto that my Jag had during 2003 and 2004.

I should point out that I did not do this work myself; I bought the car in April this year after the guy who restored for himself decided to emmigrate and wanted to pass the car onto an enthusiast. He never actually drove the car, it was finished and then stored in a heated garage for a couple of months before I bought it

:D nice!!! I can only hope hope day!!!I think mine is the same colour?
Do the administrators do sticky's on this sight so we can post how too's?
I think there is plenty of corrosion engineers out there who can explain repairs they have done or where rust hides in our beloved XJS's.

I look forward to seeing how your car progresses, Jon.

One really nice touch that the restorer put on the wheels was to mix a teaspoon of silver flake (that he'd bought when he restored a lotus - apparently some Lutuses have silver flake on the roof) in the first coat of lacquer so now my wheels sparkle in sunlight. Well, they do when I've washed the brake dust off them anyway!

The colour is Sapphire blue. I don't think it's an original XJ-S colour but I prefer it to the red. You do see a lot of red XJ-Ss don't you?!

The colour looked similar to mine, she's Jag steel grey (colour code LEC). I was toying with spraying my wheels anthracite but looking at your pictures I think that may be too dark against the dark base colour.

Red seems to be a popular colour but if it's sprayed in Celly it's a nightmare to stop from dulling over the years.
