Hi, I've only just signed up having recently bought an XJS 4.0. It's in great condition and appears perfect apart from having no CD player. It's got the standard Jaguar radio casette and this has a TAPE/CD button on it, so presumably it can accomodate a multichanger. Can anyone tell me whether it would have to be a Jaguar system or whether another would work. I'm guessing there's a socket at the rear for connecting but don't want to start pulling things about until I know what my options are. Thanks.

Hi, I have the same radio and I connected the Alpine CHM-S630 which I purchased from http://www.addacdchanger.co.uk. Cost was around £130 and it was a straight plug in to the plug in the boot.

Graham, thanks for the prompt response. I've checked the website and rummaged around in the boot but the only spare lead/plug I can find is a red cylindrical 3 pin - nothing like the 8 pin suggested on the website. I can only assume I'm one of the unlucky ones who has not got a lead running to the boot - though it seems a bit odd if the radio is set up for it. Unless anyone knows any better. Thanks.

Hi,
The lead will be there, it is just a case of finding it. Remove the left side boot trim panel and look for a blue coloured lead, it is about 5mm in diameter. The plug on the end of it is usually near the light cluster. If for some reason it is not there, a new lead will be supplied with the cd unit and is not too difficult to run it through to the radio unit.

FOUND IT!!! Steve, thanks for the description and directions. Being a Jaguar I suppose I should have known that it would be beautifully wound up and firmly tied back out of harm's way rather than just dangling there - but I've got to get used to that sort of thing. Once again, thanks very much. And a big thumbs up for this forum!!!

I made a 3-sided plywood box-cover, carefully shaped and fitted to "bridge" my CD-unit on the left boot shelf. Used B & Q carpet tile to carpet the top, side and front panels in matching grey. The simple unit can be lifted or slid off (towards the boot centre) in order to access the CD-player but, in situ, makes a great storage shelf. I can keep my regularly used full bag of golf-clubs stored across the boot with the club-heads resting on this cover etc - protects the CD unit completely, and neatly enhances the boot storage & carrying capacity.

The standard Jaguar unit will only accept its 6CD changer as it doesn't have 'the brains' to cope with more. The radio also picked up engine noise. I replaced it with a 10 CD changer Sony system. Had to replace the aerial too. The leads are not difficult to lay and the results are worth it.
