Airflow Meter interchangeability

Postby SimonR » Sun Jan 04, 2009 1:16 am

Hey all,

I've got a duff airflow meter on my '92 Daimler XJ-40 and am looking to source a second hand unit.

I've seen one on eBay from a 1989 3.6 car and wondered if the 3.6 and 4.0L units are the same.

I don't have a parts catalogue so can't see if the numbers are the same so does anyone have any idea?

Many thanks

Simon R.

Hey there,

Many thanks for your reply - I suspected as much!

The one I was looking at on eBay was item # 270313412262.

If you have a 4.0L one then I'd be interested to know a price inc delivery - I also see that you're advertising headlamp glasses on eBay - if you've got a Driver's side XJ40 square type one then please let me know a price for both items delivered in the UK.

All the best,

Simon R.

Hi again, Rob.

I've not sourced the part yet and to be honest I've actually not driven the XJ since the last post! I've been rebuilding an MG Maestro's front suspension of late...

Someone suggested that I should try inspecting and cleaning the sensor part of the faulty meter. I think that perhaps a compressed air spray might blow out any dirt that may be in there, causing an over-rich mixture.

I'll do that and then if it's still not running correctly I'll invest in a replacement unit - there have been a few on eBay recently so I think it'll be OK.

Cheers for now,

SR.

Have you taken a reading from the sensor to see if it is the duff part of the system?
Can you read via the ECU, or using a voltmeter on the connector pins?
