Okay, so I left the lights on overnight and obviously the battery was as flat as a flat thing in the morning.
With all the refinements of the vehicle - a 1990 XJS V12 - I'm rather surprised it doesn't have a lights on warning buzzer........... or does it? Maybe it has one and it just doesn't work. I can't find any reference to it anywhere though. Any clues or advice folks?

Many thanks
Keith

I did that same thing the first week I had my 3.6. Many years ago now.

If I remember rightly I got a 12V buzzer and rectifier diode (in series) and wired it between the sidelights circuit and the driver's door pin switch. The parts ty-rapped near the fuses.

Lights circuit -------- .-->|---. --- buzzer---. --- pin switch--.---ground

When the lights left on and the door opened buzzer sounds. The diode prevent the current when lights off and door shut.

A variation in this is, instead of to the pin switch, wire it to one of the fuses which are live when the key is turned. When the lights are on and that circuit goes dead when the key removed, the circuit completes that way.

Me too. I moved from an XJ40 to my XJS so I got lazy with all the warning gongs. I left my XJS in the office car park at 8:30 one morning with the sidelights on, and went out for the day in someone else's car. Got back about 6pm - the lights were still bright - and it started!

Lucky.

Another usefull mod would be to use one of the unused warning lights in the dash to illuminate when the lights are on. I always forget to turn them off once it gets light outside.
