Alarm chirp

2001 XJR8 (XJR100) - Alarm used to chirp on locking but no longer. Also recently refuses to double lock (i.e. indicators used to flash twice).

I'm happy to re-program but what is the correct procedure for this model?

And where is the alarm sounder anyway?

welcome....

you could possibly have a different issue than you think ,

these cars have a micro-switch in the door lock that allows the alarm to set and or double lock, if one of the switches is failing then the car may think there is still a door open ( or ajar ) and not allow the double locking and therefore the alarm/immobiiser to set

did you have any problem with any of the doors before this fault , and did the dash ever tell you a door was open though you knew it was shut ? though it may not have told you this info.....

a quick plug into a diagnostic PC will tell you which door, or its a hands on effort to eliminate the culprit

you could try the old ' full reset '......disconnect the battery for ten minuts and then reconnect, ensure you have your keys in your hand before shutting the boot-lid and the radio code, everything lse will boot back up just peachy

Paul XJR..............BB is quite correct in the information he posts .....its all down to the simple things first, i had a short burst of pique when my car wouldn't dead lock and talk back to me.......it wouldn't do anything....
I blamed the complicated so and so cars, the electrics, the battery, ect ect
then i found out the problem..........ME.....i hadn't closed the boot all the way..............silly old man......Joe

my xj8 locks properly and alarms but the day i bought it it chirped each time it was locked/unlocked...........never done it since that first day ????

I'm sure you meant this anyway, but the system is only supposed to chirp when you deadlock it ie when you press the lock button a second time within 3 seconds of pressing it the first time.

A single press of the lock button locks the car, arms the alarm and flashes the indicators once, but it is the second press that deadlocks it, chirps and flashes the indicators twice.

Dear all

Thanks for replies. I hadn't thought of the door micro-switch I'll connect pc and see what it says. This could well explain lack of deadlocking.

Tried battery disconnection - deadlocking now ok.

As for the chirp - the security sounder appears dead (just behind rad at lh side of car). New one on its way - I'll let you know.....

as for the ' chirp ' mine never has , though it was seven years old when i got it,

so i'm now gona go look at my ' chirper ' and see if its FUBAR

what was the part number and price of the replacement

Part No is LNC2620XX where XX is AC on my car but varies.

two main types - one about £45 other £145 - guess which mine was!

My mate has an XJ8 which has never chirped - I am thinking this is a common failure.

Will fit new unit today - I'll let you know

Ye of little faith - now all works perfectly

What do I get for my £129 + vat -

a beep when double locks
beep if try to lock with door etc open
extra beeps when horns are sounding as alarm

I'm glad you got yours chirping.

For anyone else interested, there can be another reason for non chirping: it can optionally be programmed OFF by the dealer.

When I got my 1999 XJ8 in 2003 it made an extra chirp noise on deadlocking or unlocking. I queried this with the main dealer and the diagnostics found it was due to having a Tracker alarm fitted. They could not stop the extra chirp but they could program the usual lock/unlock chirps to be silent if I wanted. Apparently they said that legislation forced vehicles manufactured after 2003 to be silent - flash their indicators only for confirmation. I'm glad mine chirps!

Brian i know what you mean by if something is supposed to work and doesn't.......i am the same.....at times the money doesn't matter too much but the result of getting it to work as it should is a real challenge.
That's what being an enthusiast is all about, the dammed thing will be as much 100% as it should be or die in the attempt........i have been lucky so far except with my reversing warning system........they didn't fit them in my model and now sourcing the correct one is becoming a toil.....Jaguar in their wisdom don't manufacture them any more....too expensive for their version....£300 or thereabouts was uneconomical compared to the spurious ones at about £50-60 fitted.......but being like you and others obviously are I WANT THE JAGUAR ONE.......it is different and better quality.......Joe
