Holiday Wheels

Postby mike020150 » Fri Jul 10, 2009 10:14 am

 After all the complicated technical comments made on the Forum, the following may be far too obvious but on the other hand it may just be timely! If your XK8 enjoys routine main dealer servicing, don't forget that the wheels are only removed very infrequently unless specific wheel related work is required. Even then, not every garage completes the task correctly. Consequently, there are plenty of opportunities for the alloy wheels to corrode onto the hubs. In a garage this isn't a terrible problem. However, on holiday alongside a foreign motorway with a puncture, life can become more than a little fraught. So, when you check the oil, water and tyre pressures, why not take the extra precaution of ensuring the car's wheel hubs have been 'coppaslipped' and the wheels will come off without the attention of a passing gorilla? It may be time well spent. Punctures are never convenient but having to wait to be rescued can turn a holiday irritation into a nightmare. Mike.

Hi Mike ,
What an important edition to routine maintainance :!: , removed my wheels a few years ago after disc replacement and found that the main agent had forgotten to copperslip one wheel , the rest came off easily but that one.............. well................. to say it was a pig would be the understatement of the year ,

Best Wishes ,

Nik

PS Guys , don't forget to check the mechanical key operation on the bootlid , get a flat battery and find it's siezed :(

:D You're right, of course. The world's worst XK8 breakdown is a puncture combined with a flat battery in a car with a seized boot lock en route to anything important!!! :D Mike.
