Wiper / Washer Problem

Postby D_Doran » Thu May 28, 2009 6:09 pm

Couldn't think which section to post this one in.

Today, I tried using the wipers, and initially little or no water would come through. Thought it may be low fluid level even though there had been no message displayed. Filled the reservoir and tried again. Still little or none out of the passenger side, and absolutely nothing from the driver's side wiper. I could hear the water pump when I tried spraying. Eventually the passengers side started pumping water normally, but still absolutely nothing from the drivers side.

I tried a small needle in the outlets in case they were clogged, but no difference.

Any suggestions? Can anyone advise where the pump is, and how to get at it if needed?

Thanks, Damian

Hi Damian ,
The pump is attached to the actual resevoir and thats located behind the N/S/F wheel arch liner , try removing the drivers side wiper arm complete with the washer jets before blaming the pump however  , you will find that the washer jets are a combination of adjustible ball and socket jets and rubber ducks bill nozzles , I would imagine that if you clear them with an air line in the opposite direction of water flow it should blow any debris out ,
it will also help prevent you blinding yourself if you accidently blow a ball jet out of it's plastc housing  ,

Hope this helps ,

Thanks Nik, is the wiper arm easy to remove?
What about the pump itself, do I need the wheel off to get in behind the liner? I am hoping that perhaps the pipe to the drivers side has maybe detached or somehow got a kink in it stopping the flow.

All advice GREATLY appreciated!

Damian

Hi Damian ,
Yes , take the wheel off as it's much easy to access  , the wiper arm is secured with a nut ( 13m IIRC ) holding the arm to a tapered/splined shaft , try disconnecting the washer feed pipe where it attaches to the arm first to check for flow/pressure ,

Hope this helps ,

Filling screenwash bottle

Postby JagTrooper » Sun Jun 21, 2009 12:50 pm

I was filling the screenwash bottle on my XK8 this morning and filled it with water until the filter was slighty covered, after closing the bonnet noticed that water was dripping out of the bottom of the car. Is there an overflow pipe for the screenwash bottle??? (pleae tell me there is as I don't need to spend any more money on my 'dream' car that look like it might turn into a nightmare....)

Dripping screenwash

Postby MyQuest » Mon Jun 22, 2009 9:27 am

My 99 XK8 started dripping after filling - well running, actually!

I found that the main plastic body tube/filler which joins at the side of the reservoir, was leaking badly. Looks like it has been 'glued' in originally. However the bottle holds over half capacity so it's another job to be done shortly.

Sigh...
