under the airbag is a multi-pin connector that handles all of the steering wheel electrics
i would expect that this plug has come adrift , are you getting an airbag warning light on the dash , as this would indicate the problem to
removal of the airbag is simple , but you need to follow a few basic but important instructions
have your keys to hand, disconnect the battery , and wait for ten mins , ensure the door and boot locks open with the key , and that you also have your radio code
when ten mins have passed simply undo the fixings on the back of the steering wheel to allow the airbag to come away ,
you will see its lead and plug so be careful not to yank the lead ,
with the battery disconnected, you can simply unplug the airbag, and place it base down on a solid surface
( if it goes off it will be forced down , and not up into the air if placed face down )
inspect the rest of the plugs within the wheel for damage or disconnection etc
repacement is reversal of removal
bear in mind, it could also be any of the loom in the steering column
hope this helps

Right, Had it to bits, looks like its that cassette thing thats at fault, no continuity through it, ordered a new one, anyone ever fitted one?
Bob
Not done one on the Jag, but normally, best advice is to ensure wheels are straight ahead poosition. Dont remove packing locks on casette until fitted on column or if you do, ensure the two parts dont slide around.
I am surprised that you got zero continuity through the clock spring..usually it will be one or perhaps two of the many wires...
Usual precautions re airbag saftey and procedures apply....
If you get stuck, I am sure JTIS will help.
