Rear shock removal and fitting

Postby Jonathan3004 » Tue Mar 17, 2009 11:54 pm

Hi Can anyone tell me (in very simple terms!) how to remove the rear shocks on a 2003 XKR coupe? It appears that the top of the shocks go under the rear seats, do I access the top by removing the rear seats? I think I need the top bushes replaced and understand that they need to be pressed in, I also have the part number of them, but I need to ensure this is the problem first.

Many thanks

Jon

Hi Jon,
This is not as easy a task as it used to be on older cars. Very briefly; the brake caliper etc have to be released from their mountings/connections and the lower wishbone separated from the hub after marking the position of the eccentric bolt to adjust the toe setting. Then, the coil spring needs to be compressed, in situ, using the correct compressors. At that point the top spring mounting plate (four nuts) can be released from below the car and the shocker/spring assembly removed from the car and stripped apart. Due to the safety implications, do not tackle this task unless you are sure you have the correct tools and have taken the necessary safety precautions. Mike.

Mike thanks for that, I note the need for the correct tools.
