Leaking Power steering

Warning - this could happen to you. Similar to Bill last year my XK8 (1998 4.0 coupe) sprung a leak from the cooling fin unit turned out to be corrosion where the flexi from the resevoir connects to the pipe of the cooler. Very local corrosion but because of the pressure quite a fast loss. Horrible noise from the cavitating pump, was my first indication. A top up of appropriate fluid from a service station got me home. I'm not sure what preventitive maintenance could prevent this? I do know as the cars get older this is likely to be more of a possibility. A few new parts and fluid cured the problem - access is not easy but it can be done without removing the nose cone. The location is well protected up behind the nose cone infront of the Rad so unlikely to be mechanical damage.
Good luck & Enjoy, Steve

There's not much that you can do about this type of failure except keep a routine eye on these and similar components/areas of weakness. It's probably a good reason for diy servicing. At least you know when the items were last checked! Mike.
