Which replacement exhaust?
Moderators:MarkX, mike020150
My XK8 is in on Thursday to have the JEC tailpipes fitted. A friend has them on his convertible and they just increase the 'burble' a little. Nothing too raucous. The car was in on monday but they didnt have any clamps to replace the rather rusty ones in situ. Would probably be a good idea if these clamps came with the kit as the old ones are unlikely to be saved.
Pics are up of the Macleod X-Pipe
This is a straight through system with only two silencers

I have the MK-I and the MK-II is an improvement in both torque and BHP)
With the exchange rate and even shipping i'm confident that no other system comes close for power and increased (but meaninglyful/subtle) noise
No affiliation

Video of club system
Can anyone post a video or sound clip of the club system?
you would'nt notice much difference
Do you have a 8 or an R?
I have them on my R, and they are intrusive at 1800-2000rpm...with fairly loud cabin boom.
I have dynomat'ed the boot and back shelf and it has helped considerably, but it is still there.
At the end of the day, if its noise you want then they certainly add that... inside and out.

Just had JEC pipes fitted to my XKR coupe last Wednesday. Takes a little getting used to after the near silence of before.
Definitely boomy at 1800-2000rpm with anything other than light throttle opening. Overall, a nice noise but I might try a little dynomat too.
From inside, at high revs, the supercharger is still the main noise. In mid-range, there's a nice V8 sound. At idle, not a lot of difference.
It feels faster but that could just be because I keep putting my foot down to have a listen again!
From outside, a nice burble at idle and a nice reflected sound with the windows down.
Tailpipes fit and fill the early rear valance beautifully.
After quite a delay while a new batch was made, I'm pleased I waited.

Getting on for a year with the JEC exhaust and still loving it. I thought an update might be worthwhile. I reckon the boom is getting a little softer with use or perhaps I've just got used to it.
At full throttle under load (e.g. accelerating hard on the motorway), it gives a fab deep rumble - when one of your Ferrari-driving crew going to Le Mans comments that it sounds v. good and with multiple thumbs up in the tunnels I guess it must be about right
Still a delightfully quiet and smooth cruiser when desired though.

The Club pipes do make a nice noise, don't they? They certainly sounded the best when we ran the exhaust competition at the XK8 seminar. Mike.

I've got the Mk1 Cats Roar and it is 'awesome' (as our American cousins would say!). I've had it since 2006 and it was he first one Bill McLeod exported. All in inc shipping and import duty I believe it came to £1400
I assume the MkII can also be spec'd in the 3 seperate noise levels as well
Snarl
Growl
Roar
Now that they are sold by Jaguar XP shipping may be a little cheaper, however it works out to $2050 here which is £1280+shipping (but inc the 3% surcharge imposed by your credit card company)

The following parts are offered as accessories. Some owners like to attach an extra pair of tips to additional mufflers to allow a very quick changeover. An extra pair of double bolt band clamps would also be required to keep the mufflers and tips attached to each other. The same would apply to keep a set of tips attached to the straight pipe muffler substitutes.

Note for early model 4.0 naturally aspirated cars: the first version of the rear-most hanger attached to the aft end of the last muffler (behind the rear wheels) is an oblong rubber hanger with a hole in each end. The top hole slips over an outward facing rod bolted to the side of the boot/trunk. A rod welded to the back of the muffler case slips into the lower hole.
This must be upgraded to the later version bracket. The new version is a triangular horizontal metal bracket that bolts to the side of the boot/trunk in place of the rod. A round rubber “donut” bolts to the bottom of this bracket. The new donut has a longitudinal (fore/aft) hole through the center instead of the early horizontal (side to side) hole. These triangular brackets are available from a dealer for about $100 pair, or, I have an improved version with metric “RivNuts” and black powder coating for $80 pair. The right and left sides are different.
Check to see if your car has the early oblong rubber hanger, or the later version with the triangular horizontal bracket.

Re: Which replacement exhaust?
Hi guys-IM BACK ( Australia's out of my system-at last!), anyway, i took my XKR down under and with my first tax rebate ripped the "well over strangled zorst" off and had a 2.5 inch cat back pipes, cross over for balance before axle and highly polished back boxes, with twin tips both sides. The sound and smile this put on my face was worth every cent and more!! Ausies are mad on making their cars individual and are very hands on. The exhaust shop i used was recomended but they just make up to suit ,ADVISING me NOT to go over 2.5 inch for best sound, boy ,how right they are.All this for Aus$1500.
My advise, go to a shop that can make a s/steel exhaust up to your requirement, not even a Jag specialist as too many see the ££ sign with these cars. Cruising around was still quiet ,but tromp the beast and ,OH ! what a sound and surge. View my ex car at carsales.com.au ( type in Jaguar/XKR/Canberra ), its $50000 ! 1999. : :
