hi, this is all new 2 me so please forgive mistakes a friend ownes a lovely mark ten jag,not sure of year but the reg starts ELO, the car is not used much and it now leaks a considerable amount of gear oil when the car is turned off, not when running . the car is automatic..my feeling is that a seal has shrunk with non use, the oil runs out thru the mesh on the bottom of the box
1. can this be fixed in situe or has engine and box 2 come out 2 . can gear box come out on its own
is this job a major specialised job,i have not worked at an auto box before , any idea what seal or seals , thanks

I think it sounds like a rear main oil seal has gone dry from storage and now requires changing. have a look here http://www.trustmymechanic.com/rear_seal.htm
