Later Bonnet Release Catch

Can any one help please? I’ve got the later type bonnet catch. Ie, just two catches, one each side connected by a wire cable. The offside release is at best a little unreliable. I’m guessing there is a correct procedure for setting this up as it is quite different from the earlier cars and not obvious (well it isn’t to me). Clearly the consequences of getting this wrong then make it extremely difficult to open the bonnet. The Workshop manual doesn’t cover this.
