Not to everybodies taste

Postby jonc3725 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 11:43 pm

Thought I would post a few pics of the finished car as I have been driving it over the summer. Colour scheme is not to the purist taste but I grew up watching the touring cars so wanted something similar and I know it won't please the bolt polishers but the aim was for me to own a rust free fully rebuilt XJS which is maybe a little different which I could drive for pleasure :D

From front to back.

She's not perfect but it was my first full restoration (why pick an XJS  ) and I learnt loads on the way (especially about British engineering in the 80's  ). Over 8 years the paintwork got slightly damaged in areas (small dinks etc when stowed if I was working away) but I'm fairly pleased with the outcome.
Jobs to do:-

Get the AC working.
Get the ECU fettled by AJ6 engineering to fully cure the rich running
Sort out the hot start problem (maybe there on that one).
Re-do the wood as it has started to crack already (Oh well you learn as you go!!)

Hopefully see some fellow club members around when I am out and about

Not to everybodies taste

Well Done, I could not of tackled that job.

I think the interior looks great and the body may grow on me, it would be a boring world if we all had standard cars in standard livery.

Enjoy it :)

my sentiments exactly ,

i also like your subtle mix of facelift XJS parts on your car, such as the rear spoiler and boot compartment sides ,

the 'black chrome ' , is that original , or have you colour-coded it yourself ? , it looks good either way , and am considering doing all my chrome black as well, possibly....maybe, erm , dunno , lol

i like the racing stripe in white, i could go with a green version on my white car, but think it would be too ' track-day ' for me, but i do like it , i also have a full TWR body-kit on mine ,

interior is OK , and as said above, its all down to personal taste, the main thing is its neat and tidy , and well cared for ,

as for the dash wood, its one of those things with our cars, and if your interested, i have a new full set of dash wood for sale, pm me if interested

the advantage you have over me, is that your driving your car, mine is still on axle stands having the front end rebuilt , and will be another year until she is painted and on the road, as i have just spent my respray money on my sons new Aprilia RS125 race replica motorbike, lol
well, it is his 18th birthday soon

Very nice, good job!

I like the interior, was that the original style/design or your own styling?

I like the exterior body work, nice to see a sporty looking xjs and not another smoking jacket and slippers cruiser.

There both good, as either standard and subtle or a bit more race'y, lets see a few more race'y ones.

I've started with my substitute pipes,aj6 engineering ecu etc car certainly sounds a lot more fruity.
