I am sure this has been asked many times however, i need to replace my struts and have two questions:
1. Are the facelift model struts inter-changeable with the earlier versions.
2. has anybody ordered the struts available from SGS Engineering online as they are extremely affordable. £13.99 each.
Would appreciate any feedback.

Chris,
The struts are different between the two models. I got mine (1986 model) from David Manner and seem to remember they did not cost too much.
Hope this helps

I could be wrong, but I believe the post facelift struts incorporate a locking device. My struts are just about on their last legs (checking levels and getting crowned by a falling bonnet is not funny any more) so I will be looking at changing to locking struts on my pre facelift.
As long as the fixing points are in the same position and the overall length of both types of struts are the same, I don't see a problem with interchanging the parts.
Maybe we could have a meeting of minds on this?
I'll measure mine and post up if someone with a post face lift does the same

You're quite right, the later cars have one locking strut, which is an absolute godsend for those of us who have experienced the bonnet falling down on our heads (even with new aftermarket struts fitted
). I think that they are a direct fit to earlier cars.
Unfortunately whilst I haven't checked prices I believe the locking strut is considerably more expensive than the earlier type.
Regards
Tony

You're on, Tel!
What dimensions? Length (obviously,) but where will you measure the mounting points from? Trailing edge of bonnet, and headlight edge of wing?
