what a shock!

Can anyone tell me if there is any difference in a rear or even for that matter front shocks or springs between the 3.6's and the v12 cars???? :?: :?
I would be very surprised if there is, especially the rear ones, the car is going to be relatively the same weight particularly at the back.
If there was a difference i would assume the v12's may have a stiffer spring and/or a more rugged shock.
However i cant say for certain about any of the above.

Anyone know 4 sure?? and anyone running v12 type shocks or springs on there 3.6er??

looking forward to a learning experience.

Ta in advance PaulB

mrb39,

There is a whole myriad of different springs and shocks on the XJS range covering V12s, 3.6 & 4.0 litres, sportspack or touring suspension.

A few of them can be transposed eg sports or touring springs & shocks for the same capacity engine car. However you will have height problems if you try and put V12 springs in 6 cylinder cars. The front-end weight of a V12 is quite different to that of a 3.6

There are a number of different thread posts on this subject and the availability (& non-availability) of certain items.

Try using the Search facility and look through the previous posts on springs, shock absorbers etc. There's quite a bit to read.

Good luck

Thanks for the post Paul.
I will have a trawl thru the archives again, i will have looked up and read the post before but would have been a while back.
I had already assumed the front shocks on the v12s would be heftier then a 6 cyl as you have pointed out because of the weight.
You would think the rear shocks and springs would be the same though?
surely cars are same weight at the rear.

Just been out in car for first time in months, gave it some beans round a roundabout, and she is definately a bit TAIL happy.
Bit like riding a bucking trifle!

Newer/and /or stiffer springs definately going on.

If you really want fast/hard cornering and a firm ride then uprate the shocks and springs, but don't forget that your original springs/shocks (if original) will be softer and will have sagged a little, so the change would be quite dramatic.
Don't forget to check radius arm bushings and the rear cage mounts too, would be a shame to put uprated shocks and springs on only find it still handles like poo

i suppose new shocks and springs might be fine, after all 4 shocks and 4 springs must be fairly rigid/firm?
I would possibly be dissapointed if i shelled out for original stock stuff, then found the car to still be soft?

I would like the car to virtually no roll or sway and be racy firm.

Might not be everyones cup of tea but i dont like a trifle like ride.
Your dead right about the radius bushes etc. all will be swapped in time.
Still not put my poly bushes on front end though! not enough time or energy.
