Starter Motor

How easy or difficult a job is it to remove and reinstate on a 4 ltr AJ16?
Can the job easily be undertaken from the engine bay, or does it require access from underneath?
I can see the motor looking down from the engine bay, but I know how even the simplest of looking jobs can go pear shaped!

Had it been a V12 I would've replied, but on saying that most starter motors i've removed are easier from underneath, yes you might get to it from above but, when it's hanging at an angle on one bolt and you're trying to hold it straight with one hand and remove the bolt with the other it gets back breaking being bent over after a while.
Best jack the car and get on the floor, easier to hold the motor up from underneath than from above.

extratime1983,

As you probably know, there's a flaw in the service manual insofar that it misses out the section on removing 4 litre starter motors. That might explain the lack of responses.

I'd just give David Marks a call and ask him how he does it.

Good luck
