How NOT to repair a sill

Postby Mr.Ian » Thu Feb 11, 2010 11:04 pm

I cannot believe this.
I really hope this isn't anybody on here, but i'm sorry this is certainly the way NOT to repair the rear of an XJS sill. Especially as the inner sill isn't repaired and just hidden away and the jacking plate area looks bent due to the lack of inner sill structure anyway.
As I said I hope this isn't anyone on here, this is really stupidly bad.

How NOT to repair a sill

I know !!!!!!! - if you follow the pictures through the sequence you'll see even the '''''repair''''' brackets???? to hold the '''''repair''''' pieces on are welded to seriously rusted metal and are useless.
I wonder if he got it through the MOT with those repairs ?????
I CERTAINLY HOPE NOT.

Oh no, the same person also '''repairs''' front subframe spring turrets, this is really asking for serious trouble and has the potential to kill.
There's massive amounts of potential energy in compressed jaguar front springs how the hell can this repair be anything but lethal.
I'm wondering why the website have let the pictures on.

How NOT to repair a sill

 Oh My God!!!!!!,

The real shame is that he is proud of the repairs so obviously does not know any different. I do feel for who ever this is because he has taken time to try and keep his XJS on the road but with little knowledge of structural repairs. Mind you having seen some MOT welds in the past this is a gold star repair!. If you are in the club please don't be put off by our comments but contact one of us for a little heads up (I do have pictures somewhere of repair of corrosion in the same area)

Maybe the same bloke mentioned on PH forum who welded a broken suspension spring back together?
