Bolt of lightning Light?

Postby bigjim » Sat Dec 19, 2009 8:47 am

Can any body tell me what the red warning light with a lightning flash on it is for, mine is on all the time. On my old XJ40 I think it was a fuse failure light (well it lit up when a fuse blew!) I have checked all the fuses and cleaned all the connections in the fuse boxes, but the light still comes on. I also changed the small unit under the main fuse box (High voltage control unit I think, 2 inch long, three male spade connectors, silver in colour bolted directly below fusebox) I don't know if it is relevent but the volt meter raises to 13v very slowly on start up. Any help would be welcomed as I have cured all the other odd wiring faults (low coolant, bulb warning etc) and this one is bugging me good and proper!

Bolt of lightning Light?

Hi there,

See this thread.

Ignore my ramblings about warning lights being in the wrong places - I think my instrument pack is just different to the illustration.

In the end it turned out that the diode pack on the alternator was at fault so I had the whole alternator serviced (just to do a belt and braces job, you understand!). It's fine now. I wasn't noticing any other symptoms i.e. the battery was still charging and the volt meter on the dash read at the normal level.

Hope that helps!

SimonR.
