Centre Console- Removal

Postby geo912 » Sat Dec 13, 2008 11:13 am

Can anyone advise how to successfully and simply remove the centre console. I intend to replace the auto gearshift module sometime, existing module functions o.k. but has split across J gate and whilst in there will attempt to replace bulbs or light fittings for both front and rear cigar lights, these failed after plugging in sat nav accy although the lighters both still function.
Will be glad of any advice.
Thanks.

hi
i had the same prob with mine got a new gear shift from e bay for about £35
to remove and replace is quite easy
first ease off shift surround carfully as this has small lugs holding it in this will expose bolts holding surround base remove these this will expose screws holding gear selector once these are removed you will have to unclip wood surround this is held in place with simple push clips.
next is the orkward bit gear shift is plugged in on pasenger side you will need quite small hands to unclip connector plug i think it slides forward then you can ease it out to unplug.
you might strugle to get wires back where they came out from but i tucked them down the side
then put back in opposite order
belive me it makes a big diferance to the look of interior i finished mine off with a nice new wood gear knob and a later model stitched gear surround good luck
ps i have also replaced a number of other cosmetic parts to my 1998 xj8
regards chris

I also need to remove the whole of the centre console to get to some of the main loom wiring behind the dashboard. Unfortunately my JTIS CD has got corrupted.

So, as per geo912's request, if someone could look up on JTIS how it is done, I'd be really grateful.

Tks
