Moderators:MarkX, mike020150
Engine stalled fault, 1998 Xk8 convertible has happened 4 times now over 2 months twice in reverse and twice in drive, cuts out, Still able to steer and brake starts back up as if nothing was wrong had a new gearbox 6 months ago, have been told its a common issue on these cars , would be grateful if anyone who has had the same problem could let me know how to sort it? Thanks Nick

Hi there Kevin, only had this car 8 months not had the throttle body done myself, have looked through the paper work that came with the car, and there is no indication that a throttle body change has been undertaken, I had no idea they had been recalled is there anyway that I can check if it has been done? Thanks Nick

Throttle bodies on early cars were especially susceptible to stalling issues, making yours the prime suspect. However, it may be worthwhile paying for the services of a good Jaguar specialist or dealer to have an engine diagnostic check-up. An accurate diagnosis could save time in the long run as it's easy to chase phantom problems. Mike.
Throttle body failure is a rare but known issue for XK8, X308 and both 3 and 4 litre S-types.
BBA re-man may be able to help you and avoid the need for buying new.

Hope this helps.
Alternatively try e-bay for a good second hand unit. I recently bought a good one for £20 delivered! It was worth the risk and just for once I won!!

Thanks for the replies, I have had an engine diagnostic done, unfortunately nothing came up and the advise was It could only be detected as it happened, however after stalling it starts back up as if nothing has been wrong, so its looking like a process of elimination, I am waiting for a call back from the dealer to see if the throttle body has been done on the recall, or if not what it would cost to have it sorted, will feedback as soon as I get the information. Regards Nick

I had the same problem on motorways after about an hours driving. My throttle body had already been replaced.
I had the part load breather cleaned at the dealer and cleaned the throttle body myself using the instructions on the maxperformance website. This also has instructions for the part and full load breather.

The throttle body was fairly dirty.
The throttle body should be cleaned during the service but is apparently often overlooked.
Since then I have done two 5 hour trips with no reoccurence.
