Fault on warning lights
Moderators:davidr, BigCatXJS, dhdove
Hello, first time that I writte about my XJS, manual 3.6. 44.000 original km. I am in Barcelona. All ok since purchased it 1 year ago. Today, the warning light of the handbrake did not turn off when releasing the handbrake. Stays on while driving. At the same time, when breaking, at that precise moment, the light warning light lights up. When lifting the pedal brake, the warning of position light, goes off. Otherwise, as I say, it drives normally. Any hint will be really appreciated.

Hi DTBQR
Welcome to the forum. There is usually someone here that can help. The way you describe the fault I would guess the problem to be a combination of the handbrake release button not fully going back and the micro switch on the base of the handbrake leaver faulty or just out of adjustment. I believe the part from Jaguar is listed as NLA but it is a generic electrical component and should be easy to obtain.
Hope you get it sorted soon

Re: Fault on warning lights
Just make sure that you have fully released the handbrake.
It could be just some dirt in the handbrake micro switch that is not letting the system read that it has been released.
The light failure indication is to show you that are driving with handbrake on.

Re: Fault on warning lights
Worth checking the brake fluid level just in case the op is confusing the red handbrake warning light with the other red brake warning light.
If the handbrake microswitch is sticking, a squirt of contact cleaner into it should help.
