Boot open light on

Postby trevor.pocklington781 » Sat Apr 12, 2025 4:56 pm

Hello all.
Jaguar S type diesel 2007.
Warning indicator permanently shows "Boot Open" although the boot lid is securely shut.
I did read that this can be caused by a chafing of the wiring loom as it enters the offside boot lid hinge. I have checked this area with the hinge cover removed (photo attached) and cannot see any damaged wires.
Can any members advise where to look next?
Once in a while the "Bonnet Open" light will also flash on(bonnet securely shut) which seems to point to a more general fault.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Trevor.

Damaged wiring on the boot hinge doesn't necessarily show visually. It's quite common for breaks to occur inside the plastic insulation. Hence, to eliminate it as a possible cause, it will be necessary to use a multimeter or similar to test the continuity of the wiring. Similarly, whilst using a multimeter in that area, test the boot light switch itself to ensure it's working correctly. Mike.
